Muse classes bring women of diverse backgrounds and ages together to experience belly dance.  Classes are on going and welcome all levels.  The main focus of these classes is to build a strong foundation of fundamental belly dance techniques in a fun and encouraging environment.  Strength, posture and technique are emphasized in order to develop grace and fluidity.

Challenging and focused the classes consist of strengthening exercises in order to condition the muscles necessary for belly dance.  Our intimately sized classes include clear, accessible instruction of:

*isolation and technique drills

*dance combinations

*choreography and improvisation exercises

*floorwork and introduction to specialty props

*strengthening exercises

*warm up and cool down yoga postures

*group dynamics

 

What to bring:

*a yoga or exercise mat for floor exercises

*water

*a dance journal to take notes that will assist you in your home practice

*a positive open-minded attitude and desire to learn

 

What to wear:

*a form fitting top

*short skirt, shorts, capri, leggings, dance or yoga pants 

any outfit you feel comfortable enough to work out in as long as the instructors can see your legs and posture clearly.

Class Descriptions:

Belly Dance Boot camp:  This course will help you tone and get into better shape while keeping those feminine curves.  Belly Dance Boot camp students will learn the conditioning drills and exercises for muscular isolation, reliable endurance and toning of the physique.

 

Belly Dance 101:  This is structured class over an eight (8) week period.  We will cover the basic steps, isolations, shimmies, figure eights, snake arms and hand movements.  Each movement will be precisely broken down and drilled.  You will learn terminology as we progress through the class.  Each week we will review the basics covered previously and add on new moves.  If you have never studied belly dance or another dance style, this class is a must before moving on to the other ongoing classes we offer.

 

Dance Boot camp:  Get toned, lean and graceful in this booty shakin’ fun dance fitness class.  Learn dance moves from belly dance, Tahitian, Indian and more to get you dancing for fitness and fun.  As in the belly dance boot camp class, the class is designed as an intense muscle toning and strengthening workout.

 

Drillin' and Chillin': Belly Dance Isolations are taught in drills (repetitive movement) to strengthen muscle memory, endurance and improv your dance skills in this intense yet surprisingly meditive workout.  All styles and levels welcome.

 

Goddess Dance:  This class will focus on Goddess dancing whether its interpretation is flowing serene, smoldering serpent like or even fiery fast, this dance represents feminine spirit.  Work on your intention, learn to own your sensuality and relieve stress in this playful uplifting workout.


Improv Tribal Style Belly Dance:  Dancers learn tribal dance movement vocabulary to steady rhythms in order to facilitate group improvisation.  Learn subtle cues, leading and following to create improvisational choreography.  Movements for this art form are a fusion of the authentic movements of Egypt, North Africa, Spain, India and more.  Practitioners of this art form set aside personal egos in order to experience tribal synergy, create art in motion and tap into their earthy female strength.

 

Intermediate Cabaret (Props & Choreography):  This is for the more seasoned dancer or someone with previous belly dance or other dance experience, who is ready to start putting together dance combinations, interpret music and add props; including zills (finger cymbals), veil, cane, sword, etc. to their dance repertoire.  Bring zills and veil to class.

Tribal Fusion:  Tribal Fusion describes the innovative direction taken by ATS/ITS belly dancers.  Tribal Fusion dancers embrace a new blend of traditional and modern movement.  Tribal Fusion Belly Dance emphasizes muscular execution of belly dance movement, theatrical artistry and contemporary stylings.

 

Tribal Basics:  Tribal Basics is designed for the beginner student as an introduction to the universal fundamentals of belly dance and tribal stylization.  This class establishes a strong foundation for every dancer.  Even if you have taken belly dance classes before this class is essential for students looking to learn this particular style. Structured in an 8 week course, this class is a must before moving on to the other ongoing Tribal classes we offer.

 

YogaBelly:  A fitness class combining yoga poses, stretches and core strengthening movements.  This class is designed to strengthen one set of muscle while lengthening another.  We will also focus on controlling certain abdominal muscles that help with our isolations for belly dance and improving overall strength, flexibility and body posture as we increase our own body awareness.  Find muscles you never knew you had.  This is excellent for strengthening your back and preventing sciatica. 

 

YogaSculpt:  A combination of Yoga and body sculpting movements designed to develop a strong and well aligned body.  Learn coordinated body movements to give you flexible strength while engaging several muscle groups at one time.  This is an invigorating workout which will leave you feeling strong and energized.

 

Zumba:  Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that is a calorie-burning, body-energizing, work out that’s fun, exciting and invigorating.  Come lose weight and get in shape while learning some basic Latin rhythms and dance steps.  Tone, Sculpt and Burn Fat while having a blast dancing.  No experience necessary.
